But I am mainly a single malt drinker, so I know that more time needs to be given to each bottle. I am enjoying the first encounter, still tasting the agave but also a bit of smoke.
It's woody, but seems like the casks are of good quality - there is no palate-saturating heavy tannin astringency that you get if sipping a cheap blend JW Red Label that was aged in tired casks.
For the price IMHO this is a good value on its own merits. My first bottle of anejo and, to be honest, is very heavily oaked. The pepper agave flavour is somewhat obscured but this is a very smooth drop best taken neat or lightly chilled with ice.
Personally I prefer a good reposado or crisp blanco where the agave is more prominent but this is almost creamy in its mouthfeel. Bit oaky if you like that sorta thing, good enough to sip over ice so wasted on cocktails.
This is a superbly smooth Tequila that produces a wonderfully neat and clean flavour profile. The agave used for is Mexican, bearing the blue agave varietal.
It is a dry Tequila, and the delicate, lemony notes have a long, lingering finish. The colour has been manipulated beautifully by the inclusion of the burnt oak colouring elements, which, along with the copper and gold flakes that is used, adds an extra depth and richness to this drink.
The Anejo Tequila is a smooth, medium-bodied and very easy to drink Tequila. Its distinctive, dry flavour profile has a warm undercurrent of aniseed oil, with sweet yet peaty notes emerging towards the end of its long finish.
It has a light, copper colour, and the smell is slightly sweet, yet is carefully balanced with the oak and spice aromas that travel from the bottle.
It is very easy to drink and will creep down with immense smoothness. A really easy-going and pleasant Tequila. Read more reviews or Buy here.
This is a soft-spoken Tequila, and some of the oak notes have clearly stayed in the bottle lingering long after opening. Thank you sir. Hi, anejo has always been my favourite!
However the last couple of bottles I have bought have had a distinct scotch flavour. So disappointed! I have read inline about tequila barrels being used for scotch aging and hence a tequila flavoured scotch.
Has the reverse been happening with tequila? I would like the makers to become aware of the change and subsequent disappointment. I feel I will have to switch to a silver variety rather than an aged.
Have you heard anything about these changes?? Although a few points down on the scale, still a quality buy for the price.
