Here-in lies the key to Mezan. These are genuinely unique rums. In essence these bottles are time capsules from an age gone by with each drop embodying particular methods and cultures from different parts of the Caribbean all in homage to the Noble Spirit.
Only bottles were ever produced and the end result is classic Jamaica. Light straw coloured with a touch of pale gold, the Mezan X.

Not overly dry and the taste does not linger long in the mouth. Both currently have rums available in the UK. Neither can match the reach or popularity of Appleton Estate.
Jamaican rum is produced in such a traditional and well-regulated manner, not too mention the wonderful tropical climate that these producers would have to be doing something truly awful to be producing a bad rum.
For those un accustomed to such rums this may not immediately appeal. For those, like myself who know how well such rums work in mixed drinks and as occasional sippers it will be a welcome and familiar aroma.
The colour is great, and what's more it gives the drinker the confidence that this is not an additive filled rum. The taste is pleasant, banana is prominent, but I can also taste raisin in there.
Overall great value rum, great taste, unadulterated, what more do you want. I came across this rum while trying to find the best overall value for my mixed drinks.
I've found rums in this price point suit my needs. It's very hard to find a rum rated higher without a significant jump in price.

If you're making drinks where banana will blend nicely, you might have better luck. Mezan has no caramel color. And ask your favorite brand if they add sugar or glycerin to their rum I'll bet they cannot say with a straight face that they don't do those things..
OH, Mezan? Untouched rum. Excellent rum and coke with a slice of lime.. Not available here in Aussie so will have to try and make the bottle last! Oh and no headache the next morning , very important!!

It's all about the spirit, this shows how the proper rum should taste. Posted over 4 years ago by mistercoughy from United States with ratings.
This is an elegant masterpiece, smooth yet full of overripe fruit, pot still funk, freshly sawed sandalwood and a touch of allspice.
